MIAS is proud to share news of a new venture of one of its original members and former Chair, Luis O'Naghten. Luis together with his brother, Juan T. O'Naghten, both recognized for their deep experience and cross-border fluency, have announced the launch of O’Naghten Brothers, a boutique law firm built to guide clients through the complex intersection of international strategy, risk, and dispute resolution.

Rooted in decades of practice at the highest levels, the firm merges Juan O’Naghten’s transactional foresight with Luis O’Naghten’s globally respected arbitration practice. The result: a seamless, integrated approach to helping clients—from governments and Fortune 500 companies to family-owned businesses and multinational developers—navigate not only the letter of the law but also the unpredictability of today’s geopolitical and economic landscape.

The O’Naghten name carries a legacy as enduring as their professional reputations. Drawing from a family lineage that traces back to 850 A.D., their new brand incorporates falcons from the historic O’Naghten coat of arms, signaling leadership, resilience, and the long view. This spirit informs their mission: to be strategic partners who anticipate challenges and deliver solutions that stand the test of time.

“There are plenty of firms that do strategy. There are plenty that handle disputes. But the O’Naghtens do both—with rare judgment and seamless integration across borders,” said Edward Farah, founder and CEO of Capital Markets Financial Services.

Based in Miami and operating globally, O’Naghten Brothers brings a distinctive combination of clarity, credibility, and cultural fluency.

  • Juan T. O’Naghten has spent more than four decades advising on high-value international real estate, finance, and commercial transactions throughout Latin America, Europe, and the United States. He played a formative role in drafting both the Florida LLC Act and the Florida International Arbitration Act, laying the groundwork for much of Florida’s modern cross-border business law.

  • Luis O’Naghten is globally recognized in international arbitration circles, having served as both counsel and arbitrator under major rules including ICC, ICSID, UNCITRAL, and ICDR. Fluent in English and Spanish, Luis brings extensive experience across sectors such as energy, infrastructure, defense, telecom, and finance.

“Luis has been a preeminent bilingual international arbitration counsel and arbitrator for many years—his knowledge of US and Latin American arbitration law and practice is unparalleled,” noted international arbitrator Grant Hanessian.

As businesses confront shifting tariffs, sanctions regimes, AI-driven business models, and political risk, the O’Naghtens offer a rare kind of counsel: practical, principled, and prepared.
